For this week’s Ted Talk Thursday (TTT), I’d like to share a video of Guy Winch that’s called “How to Practice Emotional First Aid”. Guy starts right off pointing out how important it is to take care of ourselves emotionally and mentally.

There are tons of gold nuggets in this video including advice on self-esteem, negative vs. positive thinking, and loneliness vs. happiness. There’s also a powerful story about positive thinking and having a positive attitude too.

But for me, the best part of the video starts at about the 11 minute mark. This is when Guy tells a story about a first date. Months ago, when I first watched the video, this story really hit home for me. In fact, it’s the first time in my life that I ever finally got the value of self-compassion and finally bought into being compassionate to myself. Now, whenever I start to judge myself harshly, I always think about this video and that story. I know it sounds a bit dramatic, but it changed my life. Really, it did. And was a major step in my moving forward.
